Isla Tortuga is an island located in the Nicoya Peninsula which feeds into the Pacific Ocean. It got its name because it is supposedly in the shape of turtle but I think it should be called Isla Piedra because there are a ton of rocks on the island. It is only accessible by boat and for day trips. Defintitely worth a visit if ever in the area!
Best location(s) for getting there: San Jose or anywhere near Puntarenas (ex: Montezuma) . Although I have traveled from far out locations like Monteverde and Tamarindo it comes at a price. Transportation cost can be anywhere from the $100's up if you're not leaving from San Jose.
Fun Facts: Island is owned by Americans (or someone who is English as it was explained to me) They are the only ones who live on the island and they have people come in every day who cook and clean for them.
Best company to use: There are many different companies you can use to get to the island but hands down the best is CALYPSO TOURS. Excellent service all the way around. When I go back, I will be super excited to use them!
